Because the site has to make money somehow. It's either adverts or subscriptions
We don't all get the same number of adverts either. As I type, I've only got 1 for some green frying pans.

Thanks. I think I’ve turned them off now on the cookies.
At the moment I don't have any. I reject all cookies
Just getting the one that pops up over the answer box so I have no way of seeing what is being entered until I drop my keyboard at the end, currently Colgate toothpaste, and amazon

An advert was just showing. I clicked the other option reject. Hopefully I can type ok now.
More ads on AB than any other site I go on.

Same ones for clothes ad nauseum despite reporting them they are back seconds later.
I shall have to get ad blocker. This is really beyond a joke and very distracting.
not seeing ANY ads at present! dunno why not.
Question Author
I agree. 90% of the time there are adverts. Sometimes can’t type.
I only ever get one ad, and it's just below "enter your question title here".
no ads, no AB. Someone has to pay for it.
Exactly jno.

AB is not a charity, it is a business.
That wouldn't be the end of the world, jno.
How do other sites cope without these incessant, repetitive ads?
Question Author
Exactly. The adverts are almost constant. Hard to type cause of the adverts are there.
subscriptions, Gill? Wealthy oligarch patrons? But ads are what power most websites that aren't selling things directly.

I don't subscribe to any websites but, as I said, none have the repetitive ads that AB have. Clicking on them and saying don't want that ad it is still back 2 seconds later.
Certainly more now than years ago when I first joined.
