I went this morning to visit the doc and was chewing gum whilst talking to him although i tried to be disctreete about it. Is there some sort of moral conduct that one should follow when visiting your GP? Is chewing gum ok or is it as bad as doing it in class at school?

Better than doing it at the dentists !
I was always brought up to believe it's bad manners to talk to ANYONE whilst chewing gum.
I think chewing gum is entirely up to you unless the medical problem is in your mouth.Eating a takeaway may be considered a little over the top though depending on the health and safety regulations in place.
drinking a can of super lager and not sharing it with the doc would not be good manners.
crete - the doc has probably already got a four pack in his desk ! :-)
i chew gum all the time it replaced my old smoking habit and i do it everywhere, my hubby says it spoils me as i look like an old slapper cause i chew sometimes open mouthed, it doesnt bother me but i dont know if hes just being picky or it does look bad, anyway i like it! i do it work too i n the office . is it bad? i dont know
I personally think its disrespectful (and somewhat annoying) - the age old dont talk with you mouth full type thing. But as always I guess it is each to ones own.

Hi surreyg :o) x
I find any person chewing absolutely horrible, I would not be seen walking down the road with any female that was chewing gum.

I'm no prude and probably do things that would put people off me, just one of those things I suppose.
hi you - you are very different on here than you are in email lol. How are you?
Question Author
what do you mean by that surrey? What was i like in email???
just very different - maybe not so crude lol

surrey Im not so one dimensional all the time. It depends on my mood, theres different sides to me, sorry if i offended you, i didnt mean to.
oh dont be daft - i am not offended lol i guess i just think a bit different to some people. i think what i meant was you are very different to how i first perceived you - thats all. God I am sooooooooooooooooooooo bored today lol.

just because i made that bj comment earlier on doesntmake me a bad person for crying out loud. I know how to conduct myself around people, I am a decent person. Anyway.
oiii i am not having a go - crossed wires sunshine.
Evening all. I tend to agree with BOO and Surreygirl 30 and Ratter, although a lot of Americans would I am sure disagree with us. But then I also don't like people smoking around me and their smoke getting in my face. Makes me feel ill. I certainly find chewing gum and talking at the same time very disrespectful to others.
I think chewing gum should be a solitary occupation and it's pretty rude to chew gum when talking to anybody, especially when you're having a "one to one" consultation.

Would you also have answered your mobile had it been switched on and rung while you were in the middle of your consultation?
