He waits for me to wake up, and when I do show signs of stirring, he'll remind me that it's time for his breakfast by miaowing and pawing at the edge of the bed. If I ignore him enough, he'll let me snooze for a bit, but when my feet touch the floor, he'll be rubbing up against and around my legs. If I'm not up quick enough, there'll be a light nibbling of my shins.
Taken to extremes, do you remember the story of the French woman who had the face transplant? Her dog bit her face to wake her up when she'd taken an overdose.

Mine does that like The big Gill said i think its his way off telling us to get up and feed him.My cat is a right on in the morning though if your foot pops out of the cover's he goes crazy playing with it and scratching and if i dont get up quick enougth he sneaks under the covers and has a go at my legs
Mine does it too - its an "oi wake up, you've been asleep for ages, get up and play with me, feed me, pay attention to me me me"
He nudges my hand until he gets his whole head under and I have no choice but to stroke him. Sometimes he hits me on the head with his paw too - he'll lie down next to me and tap at my cheek until I wake up! The taps tend to be interspersed with little squeeky mioaws too right in my ear.

What is the difference between a cat and a dog?
A dog needs a reason to bite it's owner.
A cat just bites because it wants something.
My late little darling was the same, but he didn't wait unti I had stirred. I once woke up so abruptly I accidently managed to propel the little monster half way across the bedroom, he landed on the portable TV. Didn't get the hint though - he came back and whacked me in the face with a paw.
