I suspect landlord or home owner will be taxed and the gov don't mentioned this. This is an extra income. For those are on benefits will lose their benefits if they take this extra payment??
I think people should not accepted payments if genuinely wants to help.

i don't agree, i believe that British people should have the extra income and that it's not taxed, it will help the Ukrainian people coming which is the whole point.
Not everyone with a spare room and a big heart can afford to take in guests.
the money is necessary, to help with running costs.
its not a lot a month is it?
council tax will rise for currently single person occupiers too..as much as folk may want to help the financial implications are considerable..and lasting... and of course there is a personal risk too...ungracious as that may sound.. one has been hammered with stranger danger for years.... the answer may lie in the many many unoccupied retail blocks..office blocks..redundant Barracks /bases....

My don't mind getting my second house which was inherited recently but it has a low EPC so can't be rented out. But it could be used for the refugees if the gov wants it. It is sitting their unoccupied. They can live their as long as they wish provided I am not liable for any taxes. I don't need any payment.
Even during WWII people who took in the child evacuees were paid - although they had no choice.
maybe Minty, empty properties to house these refugees. I am watching a family here who have been in contact with a Ukrainian family, who are currently on the Ukrainian/Moldova border. they have offered to house them.
Personally I would help, but I know for a fact that mr smow wouldnt - not that he doesn’t want to help, he is just an incredibly private person and wouldn’t cope with someone in his home. But no I don’t think it’s a lot of money at all, if it helps.
I wonder how many cases of fraud there will be? "Oh yes guv, I've got 3 families living with me". At the end of the Covid furlough scheme, it is estimated around £5bn was paid to fraudulent claims. I can see this happening again.
I must say I'm surprised at the lack of posts on this given the stuff seen elsewhere when the 'r' word is used, especially where there's free dosh on offer.

Maybe there's a fear that filthy lucre will upset the positioning of halos and other signs of all-encompassing goodness.

Of course they could just be all mouth and are keeping their heads down for a bit.
There could be exemptions made so that the £350 is disregarded for tax and benefits purposes.

Surely there would have to be.
For those fostering, an allowance is paid and if they receive Universal Credit, it's disregarded for income purposes.

The first £10,000 of that allowance is disregarded for tax purposes.
For a long time now I'm sure there's been a tax free allowance if you rent a room out, round about what the government are giving £4,200

If home owners house is still under mortgage, I think it's worth asking the mortgage lender if they allow this and also the home insurance will be affected.
I've said on another thread on here today that one of my grandchildren and her husband have signed up for this. I spoke to them this evening and they signed up last week before the money was on offer but don't know yet if their offer is accepted nor how long that will take. They have a large house in a rural with more bathrooms than bedrooms and I'm not at all surprised they've done this.
