Reacher

cor, it's good :-)
Alan Ritchson plays the titular character and imo, is the Jack Reacher from the books.
It's on Amazon Prime and I'm hoping for more than one series.
This series is based on Lee Child's first Reacher novel, Killing Floor.

Okay, so he's 6'5" - just like the books - but, imho, that's where the similarity ends. I do not recall him being described as having the upper body of Arnold Schwarzenegger, strong enough to snap a man in two - almost literally in one of the episodes (i actually laughed out loud, paused the action and took a break when that happened.)
And i certainly do not remember Reacher being portrayed as a cold blooded killer - calmly shoots two men in the back.
I will watch the last two episodes, just to see the plot to it's conclusion and compare it with the novel on which it is based. But i honestly don't know if i would watch another series.

Interesting view, Ken. I've not read the books or seen a film. I'm enjoying this. Love the acting and facial expressions and understated humour which is unusual for America.
Dave finds the violence cartoonish at times.
I am practising the look on Reacher's face just before he clouts someone...just in case.... ;-)

The Jack Reacher of the book will have to stay in the book.
Even Alan doesn't match up to Jack's 6'5'' - he's 6'2'' :-)
At least you're giving it a fair watch, Ken and not giving up on it mid-way or just past xx
Gness, I liked the humour too.
It's been years since I last read a Lee Child book, let alone a Reacher novel, but between then and now, I thought it darned good :-)

Given Alba's opinion that this was the Jack Reacher of the books, i was really looking forward to this series. The first 20 mins of episode one seemed to focus solely on showing just how huge - and how very tough - Reacher is. He dispatches baddies with an ease Bruce Lee would be proud of - though Bruce Lee never shot anyone in the back. All that is missing from the comic fight scenes are the words 'POW', 'BASH', WHOOSH', etc, etc. No wonder SD laughed.
This is the sort of thing American teens stand up and applaud in cinemas and i have a feeling that this series has been made with that demographic in mind. I wouldn't be surprised to reach the final episode and see Jack Reacher pop into a telephone box and start spinning!
Throughout the series we have touched on child abuse, sexual harassment and animal cruelty - none of which are part of the overall storyline. Why? Is it to show that, while Reacher is ruthless enough to shoot someone in the back, he will not tolerate any of the above? Message; he does have his morals, you know:-/
As i said, i will finish the series because i cannot remember what happens - long time since i read the book - and the storyline is decent.
If we all shared the same opinion, what a boring planet we would inhabit:-)

I have two episodes left to watch and am struggling with the lack of concern shown by Secret Service, Federal agencies and people in general for the warzone-like body count resulting in empty desks across America.
My wife is unimpressed that I need to know how it ends but Venezuala can't have an endless supply of hopeless ex special forces freakazoids to send against our hero, can it?
