It's not necessarily the level of income, it's what you can buy with it where you live that makes you rich or poor.

You adapt lifestyle accordingly to what you earn.
In 2016 I was earning £68k per year plus 10% bonus, now I’m retired and income is less than £30k per year. Yet I have adapted to fit my income.

I was lucky to work in IT for previous 40 years and it has always been well paying.

I played around with the £40,000 that defaulted to: it says you're richer than 99% of the world. But I bumped it up to £40 million and it says exactly the same.

Even the poorest here will get food and a drink. Some poor children in other parts of the world die for the want of a drink of water. Heartbreaking.
