Does anyone here call their parents by their christian name?
One of my cousins did with her mum but not her dad, and one of my daughters in law does with both.
I find it a little odd, what do you think?
My son calls us Mum and Dad. His wife calls us by our names. I can remember when people got married in my parents generation they often called the in-laws Mum and Dad too. That seemed odd to me and still ford.
And also as a child I never called adults by their names. I was quite happy for my son's friends to call me by my name.
Three out of four of my children call their Father by his Christian name. He has always encouraged this from when they were little children. I've always said I don't like it and don't think it's respectful. Mind you, OH is a big child himself..
I called my father by his forename (Les), roughly from when I started secondary school. I wouldn't call my mother by her forename (Ivy) though, as she totally hated it!
I'm old-fashioned and I love being called 'Dad' or 'Granddad'. But times change, and I wouldn't dream of making a fuss about my title. We are all human beings, and I'm not keen on people who insist on being treated in some special way. Why should I be allowed to call my grandaughter 'Elizabeth' and at the same time forbid her to call me 'Raoul'?
