My son needs to soundproof a shoebox for homework using egg boxes. Would this be the cardboard or polystyrene egg boxes?

cardboard
why ?
Cardboard I would imagine, but I think its more to do with the shape than the material.

Why? larkin - a very good question. Can't say I understand most of the homework they get!
Cardboard. I don't know why it works, but years ago a friend has his own recording studio. He was on a tight budget and so lined the studio walls with cardboard egg trays. They worked a treat.
the poly ones have a shiney surface and would reflesct the sound i imagine, where as cardboard is pourous and will absord it, maybe ??

Thanks everyone, will be round the neighbours later begging egg boxes!
I don't think it really matters, the point with egg box insulation is that there are multiple sides so that the sound doesn't bounce off easily.

Normally it's carboard because people tend to use egg trays rather than boxes and as far as I know these are generally cardboard.
whos going to get in the shoe box to find out whether it works or not
