In light of rapid increases in fossil-fuelled energy, we face drastic measures to ensure adequate supplies for both our foods and energy.
The latter makes the threshold for alternatives such as hydrogen more realistic, thereby removing the overseas reliability.
Food-supplies should be from home-grown sources, which are, according to the BBC, of better quality than similar from abroad. So, why would the U.K. export quality foods whilst importing such commodities? This, when the cost of fossil fuels for transport are so eye-wateringly high!
Away from artificial fertilisers and back to organic, local produce would guarantee quality and reduce transport costs.

With a warmer climate, planting spaghetti trees could be worth considering.
