so we finally realise that if we went to get away from Fossil fuels we need nuclear power. Renewables all help of course but they are very expensive and cannot do the heavy lifting we need. So well done to the government for finally waking up and smelling the coffee. Oh and while you are at it, close down that Drax abomination too.

I'm more concerned about millions having to decide between heating and eating. I really don't care about our emissions considering we only contribute is it 1% of the worlds emissions. So with that in mind let's just start pumping that oil and gas out of the North sea and start fracking. Tell the green nut jobs to go forth and multiply.

1) it burns wood, wood from trees that are hacked down in north America.
2) Guess how that wood gets here? it's transported by ships,several everyday, guess how those ships are powered? Diesel, which is refined from oil, a fossil fuel.
3) they claim to replace every felled tree and I believe them, but can you tell me how a sapling can replace a 200 year old redwood?
4) They are anything but the "carbon neutral" - that is claimed!
now have a little think and tell me how Drax can possibly be a good thing.

over to you " - well in the short term anything is better than drax, even a coal fired power station is better than drax in terms of the amount of CO2 emmisions overall. (that includes the ships the transport the wood from 4000 miles away, for example)

Re-convert the boilers to burn coal. It will have an immediate effect of the installations emissions because coal produces less harmful stuff to produce the same amount of electricity. There's plenty of coal in the UK and it would be preferable to mine it rather than let someone else do it 5,000 miles away and ship it in.

The problem is that won't happen because "coal is bad." Well wood is even worse but it didn't stop them converting Drax to wood.

Not true. My Nephew has a Masters in Nuclear something or other only just recently, went to work for MOD but there were many others in his year and at other Unis.
