my dog keeps chewing her paws!!! does anyone know why and if there is a remedy

Check her paws throughly because she might have a scrape that needs medication. Or it could be a tick that is even more serious. If you find nothing, give her something else to chew on.

Hi Johnny, mange [scabies in humans] also causes a dog to 'chew' it's paws....could be worth getting checked by a vet!

my friends dog has this and it was caused by a chemical that was sprayed on the lawns, so it's a type of allergy that needs a cream.Is there a particular park your dog goes to that you could avoid for a while to see if it clears up?

Try washing her paws with Malaseb shampoo, it is medicated and very good, bit pricey though but worth it.

Do you take your dog for walks where there are nettles. My dog had a similar problem, we changed her route to hardered ground where there were no nettles and now she has stopped chewing her back paws.

My Shih-Tzu does this as well. He has been licking, scratching and chewing his paws and his flanks since I got him at 10 weeks old and he is now over 5 years old. I've been to the vet numerous times, had all the allergy tests done, had him checked for fleas, eczema etc etc. Nothing has been found. He is otherwise a lovely, well balanced and very happy little dog. He has just always had itchy skin, no pink irritated skin, no infections, no flaky skin, just itchy skin. My vet finally come to the conclusion that it might be the food coloring in the pet food, so we tried various that don't have any. No change. Still love him to bits though!

I have heard of an instance where the dog was suffering from inflamed anal glands, and the paw biting was somehow a displaced action from the discomfort. So get them emptied; it just might do the trick!
