Wifi Network Adapter In Pc

My PC has a Broadcom 802.11n network card installed but it is nowhere near as fast as my tablets or phone (60Mbps PC; 211 Mbps tablets and phone). My devices use 5GHz frequency, my PC 2.4GHz

My PC is several years old - is there a faster network card I could install?

Simple answer is yes you can change the card. However 802.11n is not terrible and another factor is the signal strength.

As a test you can set the PC up right next to the router and if it makes a big difference, then something like this worked well for me to improve signal strength to my PC:

My PC is very close to the router and when I did a speed test on the PC and all my devices a little while ago they were close together.
If I connect by ethernet then my PC does reach the proper speed of 220 Mbps but because of the security breach of my NAS I now have to connect it directly to my PC my ethernet.

If it's close by then it's strange you don't get 150mbps which is normal for wireless n.

However, if you are close enough to can link wired then if it was me I would swap the wireless card for an Ethernet Lan card so you have two LAN ports, as you'll get better performance than wireless - cheaper too as you can get them for around £10-20 depending on the slot type. Just make sure you get PCI or PCIe depending on the slot you are installing it into.
