Home CCTV systems
12 Answers
We have now had three vehicles damaged overnight whilst on our drive. Of course, nothing the police can do. We are therefore going to install a CCTV system which covers the front and side of the house and the drive.
Can anyone recommend one, please? I understand you can get systems that link to your tv and store on your sky hard drive (although I may have dreamt this).
Ideally, I do not want to spend TOO much since it is more of a deterrent to those concerned than anything (and we have a fairly good idea of the likely suspects).

I can't think of a way it could be done with a sky box, only with a DVD recorder or generic hard drive recorder.
But realistically, a kit is the cheapest option once you've considered the cost of the cameras and cables on their own.

(that one are charging a huge amount for the hard drives prefitted, I'd be tempted to get one with out the HDD and then buy a hard drive separate)

When it comes to electronic goods, I'm a great fan of Maplin electronics. Unlike most High Street technology stores, their staff usually know what they're talking about and provide genuinely helpful advice.
Your nearest Maplin branch is on Westgate (Peterborough, of course!). It's open from 0900 to 1800 from Monday to Saturday, and from 1030 to 1630 on Sundays. Here's an indication of what you'll find there:

we have a cam over the front door, with monitor in the kitchen, which is where I am most times!.....so can see who is near the door, easy to install, my OH installed it himself, and have dummy ones on the front, side and back of the house!.........not had a problem at all!.........Maybe worth thinking along these lines!.......
