Countersigning A British Passport Form

Can I countersign a British Passport form for my sister-in-law who is married to my brother or is she considered a relation by marriage? I would be thankful for any info

Since the rules refer to a 'relation by marriage', rather than simply to a 'spouse', it's clear that they extend to anyone who is married to your sibling. So, no, you can't countersign her passport application.

Thanks Chris. Was wondering because it gives this defn when I Googled:
//Related by Blood or Marriage means spouses, parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, great-grandparents, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and step-relations.//
It doesn't mention sister-in-law

I don't think your husband can sign your passport form. School teacher, vicar etc. doctor dentist

Can be a friend or neighbour according to UKGOV website

Your postman can sign it. It says Postal Official in the list of acceptable people. I knew one guy who used to do it for a tenner a time.

it's not elliemay's own application, calmck, but her sister in law's. That would be related by two marriages ... I don't know but there must be a limit to how many marriages make you ineligible to sign. It might help if your husband is someone of standing in the community.
