Who heard of such rubbish !!!! Let them run around the car with no belt on - hell - just let them hangon to the roof bars - that would be fun !!
4getme not - You're ridiculous !
A booster seat saves lives and prevents submarining in the event of an accident. Where the person slips under the lap part of the belt because they are not sat in the correct height position.
The parents should buy the seats if they have any respect for their childs safety. The laws are common sense and long overdue. If you regularly take them, then it's your responsibility as the driver to ensure your passengers are correctly restrained in the vehicle. If it's a regular occurance then what harm can be done? Its the parents responsibility to ensure that there children are restrained properly and I for one and the majority of drivers, have no problem in ensuring the safety of passengers in the car.

I dont mean child safety is ridiculous before you snap. I meant that there isnt one advert or any warning of this law. So before you get on your high horse that it why it is ridiculous that I had to ask this question in first place. If I wasnt bothered about child safety I wouldnt have even bothered !!!! All I asked for was an answer to my question not abuse.
Fair enough - For a start when you stated - It's ridiculous in your statement :" it is ridiculous. I dont have children but my mates always have lifts off me to go shopping with their children. and I'd have to buy booster seats "
You are not saying its ridiculous because "I haven't heard anything about it." h and by the ay I have to buy them etc
I watched the news most days leading up to it, national and regional and there was plenty of warnings and on the day there were articles all day about it. Toys R Us had a big campaign and so did Halfords. All the national newspapers also had articles.
For the best information type "Car Seats" into google and you will be bombarded with plenty of details.

I know what I said but I also know what I meant, you just read it wrong way. And I'm sorry but I saw no adverts. Maybe you have time to watch tv through day when they might be on but I dont and certainly dont have a halfords or toys r us near me. If I'd seen any adverts I wouldnt have asked the question. Thanks to all for answers, I have the details I want now.
I'm sorry if I offended you but I think I read it the way most other people would have read it ! Look around at other links to similar questions you get people who do think that child safety comes after having a fag whilst driving, speaking on their mobiles & putting their make-up on you see it every day on the roads.
What should the government do in these circumstances - what's the best way of informing people of these new laws? Its a very interesting topic as peoples lifestyles are so varied.

I understand but I definately take my friends childs safety very seriously. :-) I have just been told that a child does does not need a booster seat if travelling in a car that they dont usually travel in. But I think to be on safe side I will buy one for any children I do give lifts to. dont get me started on the mobile thing, I see so many taking kids to school in the morning, but what can be done. I even saw a mother holding her newborn baby in her arms while a front seat passenger, made me sick, if the driver had to break sharply god knows, and hopefully she wont ever find out.
I think maybe to let people know they should have gone down it the same road they did with when the PIN number changed, adverts in most shops, post offices etc. and just something on tv at night just not through day for any mothers to see. Or send e-mails out like those god damm bank spam e-mails, that way everyone would get them :-)

I don't think that's true about travelling in a car they don't normally travel in. It's only for licensed taxis and in emergency situations.
I certainly think that a flyer door to door through the post would get the message out - or in petrol stations or get a community first officer to hand the leaflets out outside schools. Also I think all the supermarkets could have done more.
