Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger Keep Shutting Down :S

hello there. recently I have noticed that right when I'm in the middle of doing something either on msn messenger or internet explorer- they shut down for no reason. no message comes up to say why and i have run updated virus checks using a Trend Micro PC-cilllin Internet Security. I dont understand it. why is it happening and what can I do to fix it?
