Little Tigs has recently made a new friend which is good but this week whenever his friend tries to pay for his lunch he has no money in his ParentPay account to buy food. On Wednesday little Tigs bought him some biscuits using his account which I pay into. Yesterday I told him that he could buy him a sandwich or something more nutritious than biscuits if he still didn't have money to pay for his own lunch. He didn't so today I made 2 sandwiches so he could give one to his friend.

I've asked little Tigs to find out if his friend at least has breakfast as I can't bear to think of him or any child going hungry. He told him that his mum doesn't work and his dad is in a low paid job.

I don't know what to do? Any advice please?

I use Flora plant based spread, Lankeela. Only time I use butter is for baking.
Do you know anything about his home life Tiggs? Ie are the parents really poor or too proud to ask for help?

Little Tigs asked what hehas for breakfast and he said he doesn't have breakfast but he has a meal in the evening. Quite worrying!

Apparently his dad works in a corner shop and doesn't earn much.

I'm going to raise my concerns with the head of year.
Until you have spoken to the teacher, and if Little Tiggs hasn't said his friend has been I'll, I would continue with what you are doing and give both kids the same but NO nuts or peanut butter.

It's really difficult to get such sensitive information out of a child tbh, Prudie. They've only been friends since the beginning of last week and I met him just once. Don't want to look like I'm prying either.

It could be the case that they don't know if they qualify for free school meals or that they even can apply.
Question Author
No, I would never give anyone anything nut based. Little Tigs doesn't like anything nutty anyway so it's a nut free lunch box.
Just ring the school, Tiggs. They should be very understanding and will not think that you are prying.
Question Author
Yes, that's what I'm going to do, Tilly.
Tiggs, did you ring the school?
