These are mid-term council elections and in the scheme of things mean nothing. I now live in a Tory council stronghold, and they’re utterly useless. I’ve also lived in a couple of Labour council strongholds, and they were also useless. Councils, no matter what their hue, are useless. They’re full of pompous prats full of their own self- importance, keen on...

//a winner today was one Lutfur Rahman,
a fickle thing, the electorate.......//
Not really, mush. The Good Burghers of Tower Hamlets elected him as their Mayor in 2014. The election, however, was declared void as he had been found guilty of electoral bribery, spiritual intimidation of voters, personation, postal vote fraud, fraudulent registration of voters, and illegal payment of canvassers. But I have some connections in Tower Hamlets and I'm reliably informed that, far from wanting to see him removed for those minor misdemeanours, the people there took the view that “we wuz robbed” when he was cashiered in 2015. They had to serve their sentence during Mr Rahman’s period in purgatory by having to endure a mayor whom they did not want and whom they took the first opportunity to depose.
I have taken a passing interest in the results in my ward. The turnout was 21% and the three ward councillors were elected with around 13% of the vote each. So each of them now sit on my local council, having secured votes from about 2.7% of the electorate. Not their fault, I know. Mine was among the 79% of votes uncast. It is no secret that I would like to see the abolition of local government in all its forms. So unless there is a box marked “No local government, thank you” or at the very least “None of the above candidates” (which is not going to happen) no candidate for my local authority will get my vote because, quite simply, I don’t want a local authority at all. I’m often told that my idea of no local government is an outrage but, with 79% of my neighbours not bothering to vote, I’m not so sure.

DD we had the Greens here a few years ago. They built wide cycle lanes so that the road traffic was reduced to single lanes and the build-up of vehicles was horrendous, taking triple the time to get anywhere. There was such an uproar they had to remove them again. I can't bear to think about the amount of money wasted on this. Taxi drivers were going bonkers and I don't blame them.
Same thing happened here, lb. A main road about two miles long - the main road into a local town centre - was reduced to about half its original width, with the reclaimed space used for a cycle track on both sides. Bus stops previously had a pull in to prevent the buses blocking the road, and they were removed. The result was chaos, the cost was almost £3m and the scheme is now being reversed, probably at a similar cost.
The difference is mine is a so-called Conservative council, though it doesn't seem to be doing much to help me conserve my hard-earned.

Caroline Lucas is an absolute barking mad lunatic. I feel incredibly sorry for Brightonians (I love Brighton - I’m about 45 mins away) to have that dribbling idiot as an MP.
Some of the crap she spouts takes imbecility to a new level. I’m always astonished she keeps on getting elected (although let’s face it, the fact that people keep on returning the totally retreaded Abbott has to make you question the intelligence of people).

I'm not astonished, sometimes the MP that just fits the bill ( ticks all the right boxes ) for their constituency.
