I love Dylan Moran but I thought it was abysmal. I was amazed when it got a second series.

The inexplicably over-rated Tamzin Grieg was in it too.

When I first watched it on telly I thought it was dross and dismissed it completely. But when I watched the repeat I laughed myself silly and bought the whole series on DVD. Now it's one of my all-time favourite comedies, Dylan Moran is excellent in it.

I was so relieved to see the 1st 2 posts in this thread. I thought I was in a tiny minority in thinking it completely overrated. It seemed to consist mainly of Dylan Moran shouting and Bill Bailey being dim.

Moran's better than that. Yes some of his standup is good, but did anyone see him in an oddity called How Do You Want Me? Aired on BBC2 in the late 90s, about a city boy who relocates with his wife to the rural area where her family live, and they hate him, especially her brother. Really overlooked, little-known series in which he gave an outstanding, touching perfomance of some depth - unlike in Black Books.

I enjoyed it, but not as much as shows such as Peep Show, the Office and Marion and Geoff. It was occassionally a little surreal for my liking, much like The Mighty Boosh, which I also never got into in a big way.
