Was it when she was off...... to Putney?
I'm not sure but depending on when she picked up the phrase it might be the same as saying "he's gone to East Ham" eg: One stop short of Barking - on the central line/tube map - the same as a sandwich short of a picnic hamper etc etc eg: mad!
Go to Putney

A very old expression, tantamount to consigning a person beyond the pale of London society or civilisation. (Go to hell?)
