Mobile phones in factorys

My employer has said that insurance companys are looking at banning mobile phones in the factory, is this true, there is minimal use in our factory of mobiles, the odd text etc. but definately in no way excessive. Are they making excuses and trying to politely tell us to stop it, or is it true?

The problem in a factory is often that the only people who have access to a telephone don't know what to do when it rings. Employees have mobile phones so that their families can contact them in emergency. If the situation progressed, machine operators, for example, could be walking around talking into their phones. We already see the dangers caused by people who wrongly think they can drive and use a phone at the same time. I hadn't heard of this ban, but it could be possible.

My factory does not allow production line workers to use them, but you always see contractors walking around with them.

10 years ago when my father was rushed into hospital it took my wife 3 hours to get in touches was past on to one manager to another till one finally past on her message . I soon brought a mobile after that (the size of a brick then) and have never been without one since.
