Black Magic - Simple Trick

So there's a simple trick called "Black Magic" performed by two people.
The one person leaves the room, while the audience chooses a random object and tells the second person.
When the first person re-enters, the second person points to a variety of things, and the person who left the room, will say whether it is the object that had been choosen or not.

I've watched this been done by my friends so many times and I can't figure out how they do it, it's driving me insane! Any ideas?

the object that was chosen before the randon object was always something black we played it years ago and it confused us all for a while

They could also agree that the 'Xth' item will be the one chosen .

Just found out that neither of those are the answer.
Anyone else got any solutions to this trick?

It could be that the item previous to the random object has something to do with iparts of the body. We used to do it with town names i.e Portsmouth, Liverpool, Hitchin. Just a thought.

There has to be a clock in the room
when the second hand passes the agreed number on the clock the mystery item is revealed Ta Dah

Intrigued now as to what is the answer . Another possible solution is that s/he uses their left hand and when it's the required item they use their right hand to point to the object in question . Please reveal here when you have the answer , thanks

Turns out, the first suggestion was right, but they just wanted to keep me guessing for longer because they thought it would be funny.

you are welcome have you also played the game 'scissors crossed' scissors uncrossed' that is puzzling as well

hope i can explain this clearly a pair of scissors is passed to the person on your left and you say "i pass these scissors crossed" if your arms or legs are crossed and "i pass these scissors uncrossed" if they are not the part of the trick is to turn the scissors over or close them etc as you pass them hope that is clear
