Probably in New Zealand: Whanganui, Whenuakite, Whangamata, Whakatane, Wharekopae are all on North Island, so somewhere there I would have thought.

I've only been looking at it for a few minutes but googling 'pub gave name to roundabout' brought up a few possibilities. Looking at the location of one of them on a map seems to fit well. Further, googling the name of the pub, together with 'incinerator' finds one almost next door to the roundabout and googling for the history of the pub shows that it was a prominent music venue. known for everything from jazz to Led Zep and The Who playing there.

I might be barking at a red herring up a wrong tree but, if I was entering the competition myself, I think that I'd be pursuing that route a bit further.
