I thought that too Buenchico, but given that it’s the first biopic to be given the Graceland blessing as such, combined with Lurhmann’s attention to detail I’ll definitely make full use of my Odeon Limitless card.

I’m afraid not Jim. Think I’m more interested in his impact on the history of music than his actual work, by comparison I suppose you could almost say he was the John Lyndon of his day in that he made you sit up and take notice, there’s no question about the contrast in aesthetics between the two!

Half decent karaoke singer - at best. In fact I've seen some better karaoke singers performing renditions of his work - and most of them (in common with almost all karaoke singers) were drunk.

I'm in the less is more camp too. A pretty country boy with a 'good' manager and team working tirelessly to fool the public.

The American dream come true, on the surface anyway.

NJ, I've never been drunk when I've done Karaoke! I'm always first up, early in the proceedings and usually start with Dance The Night Away.

How Great Thou Art was one of my daughters' favourites when playing solo cornet with the youth band. I have to say, she played it really nice.

As for the OP, I was never a fan of Elvis but I thought his best songs were his least known, eg, Early Morning Rain, My Boy etc.

There may be much better singers than Elvis that can perform his hits but he had such a big impact because he did it first. A sound not heard before in a performance not seen before.

When Elvis died in 1977, John Lennon was asked for a quote about him. He said the REAL Elvis died when he went in the Army. He wasn't the same performer afterwards.

Not as if he did much actual soldiering. even took time out to make a film - GI Blues, quite aptly.
His mother died while he was in the army and any 'change' may have been due to her death.
