Why Do So Many People Who Raise Money For Charity, Do It To Donate Money To Some Hospital Or Other?

They are taxpayer funded institutions who get more than enough money from us, they are just extremely badly managed. The issue is, why not donate to those institutions which solely rely on charity? I'm sorry I haven't got a specific link but I hear about these fund raising events for hospitals time and time again.

Jimmy Savile used to say he would do stuff for "charity" for anyone but those asking him always had an interest/ulterior motive. Now we know he did too!

Probably because they or their family received treatment on a particular ward and felt moved to identify them specifically as opposed to giving the money broad-spectrum?

I agree with Fatticus, people raise money for charities that are close to their hearts.
Money raised by charity for the NHS cannot be used to pay for goods and services that must be provided by government funding. Hospitals would be a much bleaker experience for many without the charitable donations.

i have preiously both raised money for the "NHS" (when i was in my early 20s i was hospitalised for a month and the ward literally had a payphone as patients only comms. I raised money to buy a cordless phone for patient use, plus helped raise money for the scbu where my children died - the money buys things like tea bags, biscuits and furnishes a room where you can spend time) and had money raised for "me" when i worked for the NHS when i workedasa mac nurse
