I've tried various you-tube instructions but can't connect my HP ENVY 6032e printer to my new upgraded router. When I got part-way through it asked me to put in my network key - OK, did that and checked it was correct. It didn't seem happy and then asked me for a 4 or 8 digit number; I tried the only one I could find on the back of the router but it wouldn't have that either. Tried to print anyway and just got the message ' printer is offline, reconnect to internet'. I'm going round in circles. What am I not doing? Simple instructions to reconnect would be very helpful - I presume the printer is still linked to the network of the old router.

Enable the WPS mode on the printer. Press the WPS button on the router within the next 2 minutes and wait for them to connect.

WPS?
WPS = Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

Thank you, Togo, I see what I have to do. Am a bit nervous about using the button on the new router, will everything return to normal afterwards? Someone set it up for me and I'm not very good at trouble-shooting.
Yes all will be the same. It does not even interupt the internet connection. You can also set all other gadgets that are WPS enabled to your router in the same way.
Can I ask? Did the printer connect to the old router with wi fi? Is it in the near vicinity of the router? Is the printer picking up wi fi signal where it is sited? You can check if the router signal is reaching the printer by seeing if you mobile phone detects it there.
Did mine yesterday. The Wi-fi 'push' said it was connecting but kept failing. Put in the Wi-fi pass on the back of the router and it worked about the third time.
The number they want will be the one you were sent when you connected your computer/lap-top to the new router (I'd imagine)
The number should be in your messages from yesterday from your data provider.
The WPS button will not muck up the router.

The purpose of the WPS button is to put the router into pairing mode.

For some things all you need to do is push the button and the relevant button on the device you are trying to connect, in other cases you would need to put in the wifi password.

Its an added security feature, without the button somebody could not access your router even if they had the wifi password.

The printer was connected by wifi to my previous router, though it was acting up; when the new router was added it appeared that there was a problem with one of the wires, so everything is now connected to a different set of plugs, I hoped this would make it work. The wifi connection to my laptop is now fine - previously it was intermittent. The printer is a couple of feet away from the router, on the same desk surface. Fortified by a glass of fermented grape juice, I followed the instructions on the link you sent, Togo (thank you very much) but the wifi icon on the printer is blinking and I suspect it should be steady; it won't print, anyway.
I think I'll switch it all off and try again tomorrow, in the hope that Spicerack's experience will be repeated. Many thanks for the advice.
I have same printer and get this problem occasionally.. Uninstall printer.. Reinstall after 10 mins.. Works for me

Have now tried six times and got precisely nowhere. Will try murraymints' advice later, though when I remember the problems I had installing the printer originally I'm not very confident.

Having another go at this. trying the WPS method, thought I sussed what I was doing wrong (had been pressing info button at the same time as the wi-fi button, instead of in sequence). Purple light did indeed begin blinking as expected, so I pressed the wifi button on router for 3 seconds, waited...well it should have been two minutes for the connection to be established, that was 15 minutes ago and still no joy. Flashing purple light still, with no suggestion of a nice blue one. I'll give it a bit longer but am beginning to think it has a death wish.

Still no joy with this. I switched the printer off, when back on again it's still flashing purple so I can't follow any of the instructions given. This happened when using method 3 'Use the printer control panel with WPS', specifically when I pressed and held, as instructed, the WPS button on the back of the printer for 3 seconds. How can I get rid of this and start again?
Question Author
Ok, finally got there. Took me three tries to uninstall and reinstall (thank you, murraymints). I think the sound of the printing was the nicest sound I've heard for days.
