While reading Pam Ayres collected works* this evening, I came across something which I remember being used widely when I was a youngster. So, here's the poem :-

My Mother had a Flit Gun
It was not devoid of charm
A bit of Flit,
Shot out of it,
The rest shot up her arm

I saw Pam Ayres in Loughborough Town Hall a few years ago. She told us about her dad’s knitted bathing trunks. We were all in hysterics. I remember having a Flit gun in the 1940s. It was kept in the garage. I seem to remember it was DDT which isn’t used nowadays, but not sure.
I have seen them in films, but not in real life.

I thought it meant flint gun, a child’s toy 50 years ago that had a revolving stone and a piece of metal and used to spray sparks out of guns or cannons on a robot.
It definitely contained DDT back then...

oh of course it did ! eek
DDT's big debut was - - terminating the typhus epidemic in Italy, 1944
it was so long ago
One of the professors at uni was involved in its testing,
and said, they had washed the fly cage 80-100 times ( proper stuff ) after one dose and it was still killing the flies !

[ that was a comment on the lab testing of DDT in the early forties 1940s - just before the AB habitual foo-ers start whining grizzling and of course - - fooing]
