Well, I got there.
Ten out of ten for the puzzling skill involved in this, Twin. Truly astonishing. But I was left a little deflated with the final step, which could so easily have been at a level to match the rest of the puzzle.
Good fun, though - I enjoyed the grid fill challenge, particularly.

When the answers are published I'll get my partner to tell me the answers to the 9-letter clues (of which I have only solved two) so that I can at least have the fun of trying to complete the grid and endgame.
Hats off to those able to complete this beast.
Definitely wishing I had a version of Chambers where you can search the entire dictionary.
Especially frustrating that there are some clues where I have a pretty good idea of the first two letters and I still can't solve them!

I thought the clues and the grid-fill were an outstanding challenge - very hard, but entirely fair. Many thanks to The Twin for that.
The post grid-fill fiddling was trivial (part 1) and incredibly boring(part 2) - I know where it's going, but have lost the will to live whilst counting and re-counting. My eyesight is more important than poring over this any longer - I'm glad I don't submit, so I can stop now.
Kudos to those who persist(ed) to the bitter end.

As with Sunny Dave. A very tough set of clues and a challenging grid fill. Then, the two instructions - one straightforward, the other extremely tedious. And an endgame that left me feeling "Is that it?" - like climbing Everest only to find it overlooked by a block of council flats. POTY? Nah 10/10 for cleverness, 3/10 for effect
