is breaking a child's swing "reasonably necessary work"? Hypothetical question as I'm sure no Labour worker would get drunk enough to do anything of the sort
no andy burnham underling is in charge of policing in Manchester
In terms of do they do anything - the answer is 'no'

I think there is no interfering with FPNs - despite a doubtful post from New Judge.

Kier apparently was aware that the number of retrospective covid fines issued in Durham was Nil
they have always found whatever excuse is adequate

Beeb are going thro a cycle of "god it is so lucky for Sir Kier" fans himself convulsively
Plan A was to ask him to (re) stand and no one stand against him....
I did think that Sir Keir was more than reasonably sure what the outcome would be before he bet his political future by saying he'd resign if he was fined.

He has never struck me as a betting man, so this must have been a cert.
AH, possibly because he knew he was innocent? Unless you know something different .
AH, you got it in one.
AH you have supernatural powers!
Starmer's a lawyer so he would have known what he could and couldn't do. I don't know what the late information that cleared him was, but as anne says, he was confident enough of his innocence to put his job on the line, and he was proved right.
PP, may I say I’m really impressed by your replies to post these last few days . Extremely articulate . :-)
jno, claptrap. Starmer is a lawyer - but he's also mates with Durham's Labour Police & Crime Commissioner.

Furthermore, he didn't put his job on the line at all. He knew he was safe - and so did the police who dragged their feet for so long before 'investigating'. Had Starmer been the man of integrity he claims to be, rather than say he'd resign *if he was fined*, he'd have resigned the moment the finger was pointed - something he didn't hesitate to demand of Boris time and time again. This country will now reap the spoils of what the back-stabbers, both in and out of parliament, have sown - and it won't be a pretty sight.
// Durham has never before had a deputy police and crime commissioner. //

No it hasn’t. In its 2021 review, The Home Office recommended that all PCCs should appoint a Deputy. Bryant was recommended by the elected PCC, but it has to be endorsed at a Special Police and Crime Panel meeting.

Didn’t the police announce their decision after Boris resigned? Wonder why.
