Me again!

I have two Excel spreadsheets and I want to combine them.

I got the first sheet - data entries look like this -

YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME 12 INCH D TRAIN

and the second sheet entries look like this -

A Day Without Love - Love Affair.mp

I have copied the 'A' section of the new sheet and tried to A-Z it into the existing list.

I have tried doing this on the entire sheet, and on just the 'A' section of the existing sheet, and it won't work on either of them.

Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong please? What remains of my hair is in serious danger!!

Etch - // OP: "tried to A-Z it into the existing list"
latest: "section I want to integrate into"
You need to explain EXACTLY what it is you are trying to do, because it certainly isn't obvious to those of us who are familiar with Excel! //

My apologies, please allow me to clarify -

I now have two sets of data placed on the same spreadsheet, with no breaks in between them.

I have highlighted both sets, and asked the 'A-Z' to sort them all into alphabetical order.

My PC has done that for the first three entries, but ignored the rest - can anyone advise?
Are the combined sets now both in column A or are they in A & B for example?

Both in 'A'.

I can't understand why it would sort three, and not the rest, and not all, or nine.
Are you able to upload a photo of what like it looks?
andy-hughes - Left-click on the 'A' at the top of column A. Now right-click and select 'Copy'. Left-click the top of an unused column and then right-click. Under 'Paste Options' select 'Values' (clipboard icon with '123' on it). This will create a copy of column A. With this new column still selected click 'Sort A to Z'. Does this new column sort as you would expect?
here's a link about sorting if it's any help.

I am finally sorted!

Thanks everyone for your advice and patience - much appreciated.
how did you sort it ... you cant leave us hanging like this :)
The problem is that if any of the people trying to help were sat next to you Andy it'd be done in 5 minutes. Trying to explain what you are talking about on here in words is very difficult. Anyway, excel is an amazingly powerful tool and it will do almost anything anyone wants. Have you considered taking a course as you seem to use it a lot. Also how is your data backed up? Could you recover it if your house and everything in it burnt to the ground?

bednobs - // I took the easy way out.

Since my Excel would not take out the '.mp' from my entries, I simply took the proverbial sledgehammer to it.

I made a copy of both sheets, took all the spaces out, and then A-Z'd them, and that worked fine.

I can then easily see what the new MP3's are that i have recorded, and not put in my index, so I am working on that now.

It may not be pretty, but it's worked!!

I kow what you mean about the personal vision versus the cyber explanations, hence my thanks to everyone who has been patient enough to assist me with my fumblings.

As far as a course goes, no thanks, I don;t need Excel that much beyond the very basics, and i have sorted out what i need.

I am exploring getting onto the Cloud to back up all my data.

Thanks for your concern - appreciated.
also did you know you can add a link in the sheet to the actual MP3 so you can click and play it......
