The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961)

I saw it as a child and thought it was frightening and that there is no way that we (human kind) would let the world burn -

But now I am not so sure.

No need for you to worry about burning, Helen. Either God or St. Patrick has promised that before our world ends in flames Ireland will sink beneath the waves.
It's because we are so good and drowning's not as bad as burning....well the priest told me that so it must be true..... ;-)
that wasn't about heat as such, it was the Americans and Soviets testing nukes simultaneously and pushing the Earth off its axis and towards the sun. If that happened, of course some ABers would still be saying "Snowflakes! In my day we fell into the sun every week and we didn't even use sunscreen!"

They had the actual Daily Express editor playing himself.
Yes I’ve seen it.

Intriguing ending …
pretty much like Boris writing one speech in praise of Brexit and one against, and waiting to see which way the wind was blowing.
