Samsung Smart Tv Query

Have a Samsung smart tv. Model UE43J5500AK. Suddenly I have sound but no picture. Have googled about switching off power etc and doing reset with the joystick power switch behind tv. No joy. Anything else I could try before handing over to a tv shop for big charges

Probably the backlight has failed.

To see if your TV's backlight is causing the problem, make sure your TV is on, and turn off the lights in the room. Shine a flashlight on the screen to see if there's a picture. If you can see a picture with the flashlight, then your TV's backlight is burnt out.

What supplies the picture (i.e. the "picture source"? Sky box? Freeview box? etc. How do you know it's the TV and not the picture source that's broken?

Switch everything off (TV and picture source), leave it at least 5 minutes and switch it all back on again.
If it's still not working, unplug the HDMI lead and plug it back in again - both ends (TV and picture source).
If it's still not working, try a different HDMI lead.
If it's still not working, try a different HDMI input on the TV.

Signal is Freewiew aerial.
Signal ok on other tv.
No HDMI cable used

Have you tried TheChair's suggestion to check the backlight?
Have you checked the aerial is still connected properly?
