Hello Builder - had a wee nosy to see if you are on.

Like I won't be bothering you too much but just wanted to let you know I had my 3rd lesson yesterday and I can play Hot Cross Buns, Twinkle Twinkle, Happy Birthday.

I got the music from a free sheet music site so I was able to play the notes.

I do have knowledge of the notes from learning to play the piano and so I know notes from "lower C to B"

I printed off the The Star Spangled Banner and tried to write the notes ie C E D under the actual notes but just done this earlier but there are a couple of Fsharps and so of course I haven't a clue. But will bring this with me next week to my lesson.

Just thought you would be interested as to tell you the truth LOL nobody I know could care less. Like haven't told anybody I'm doing the lessons.

I've just checked in JJ, and am delighted to read this.
Of course you're doing well. Just doing this at all is a good step forward.
I know it's been said before, but it's not a competition, and it's definitely not a race.
A lot of people would love to do what you're doing... if only they felt brave enough.

You want an F# ? Hold down the usual three keys on the left hand, and add just the middle finger of the right hand (usual place - just keep the other two fingers out of the way.
That's one of the many F#'s on a saxophone. Should be the same on a clarinet.

Keep going. It'll help keep your mind off your knee :o)))

Ah thanks Builder for your reply. I know it must sound like a race but I sort of wanted to play something I know the tunes and words to.

PS - Is the Fsharp not a B really and I know you have told me to keep my fingers on the first 3 notes - I take it I still keep my thumb on the back of the clarinet.
