I've just got this t-shirt in the post. There's a label saying it should be washed before wearing. Why?

we always wash anything new before wearing it.

I used to work in a rayon manufacturing mill as a laboratory assistant. Rayon is made from wood pulp treated with various toxic chemicals during production. It's wise to wash rayon items before wearing.

Do I need to wash the t-shirt on its own in case the dye ran?

Either wash with dark colours or rinse in sink first to see if colour runs

I wash everything new prior to wearing it, just to prevent initial colour run and to take the ‘newness’ out.
