That's inaccurate. James Stephen Heappey, Minister of State for the Armed Forces, said //Freezing energy bills will not help people who need the most support with the cost of living crisis...What everybody needs to know is that the government of the United Kingdom is going to help them with the cost of living," .//
Your link quotes a government source as saying //It's entirely for the new prime minister to decide how best to support families this winter."// ... so the decision has yet to be verified.
Until 5th September we have a zombie Government so don’t expect any decisions, policy, leadership or signs of life until then.
Probably best not to hold your breath for any after that date too.
Saying industry bosses recommending a freeze is also a bit of a stretch of the truth. What they want is a fund they can draw from to make up the difference, that taxpayers i.e. the fuel users will have to pay for over the coming years, as well as furlough lockdown costs, vaccine costs etc.
The only way out is to stop the green taxes, cut the VAT and then start using the resources we have. Net Zero has to take a back seat.
