combi boiler -

I have just moved into a flat with a combi boiler - and i havent a clue how this works as far as it comes to my heating bills etc - is this more expensive to have hot water all the time - do i need to switch it of a some point or does it stay on all the time - i also have a little pull string thing for the shower to produce hot water - is this all linked with the combi boiler and do i need to switcht his off to save money - can anyone tell me how this works - stupid i know - but i have never had to worry about bills before....thnks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.A combi boiler will 'fire up' when you run (turn on) a hot water tap, so it only produces hot water when you need it, so, no, you don't need to switch it off at all. The pull string thing for the shower means that it is an electric shower and there is a little heater thing that heats up the water, again as you use it. If you don't switch the little string thing on then you will have a cold shower.
