Whenever I log in to Answerbank my MAC's performance plummets, I get regular warnings of memory overload, and CPU usage soars.

I do not experience this with any other website/software. I usually use Safari (13.1.2) but Firefox is no better in my experience.

I can't help thinking it's all the bloody adverts with their fancy
streaming graphics etc.

If it persists I will soon wave goodbye to Ab.

any other browsers available to you?
About 90% of the complaints seen here about the functionality of AB seem to relate to Apple devices. (They're most often about iPads but I'm not surprised to see Macs get a mention as well). AB's techies just don't seem to test out the site with them.

Don't give up on trying different browsers though. I use Slimjet, which is available for Macs as well as for PCs:

Brave could also be worth a try:

I came to read your post as I thought that it was "Answerbank becoming unsociable".

I can't answer your real problem though. ☺
wolf, while I'm being sociable, it you should happen to be in Southwark this weekend...

Try using that that shall not be mentioned - if that improves things then you’ll have confirmed your suspicions.

I have no problems on my work or personal macs. One is a good few years old, the other jus5 a year old.
I'm on a Mac laptop and have no problem with Safari 15.5 version so try and update, that might help.
AB is fine on my Mac and iPad.

In your Safari settings make sure you have block pop-ups on and also prevent cross-site tracking. Also hide IP address from trackers. Also helps if you don’t use Google, and have a VPN.
Jno, that sounds like the purrfect day out. Meow.
I know all those jumpy, animated ads drain my tablet.
Probably shouldn't say this. Two/ three weeks ago was getting ads all over the page. Suddenly none. I have done nothing different, no ad blocker. Using my IPad as always.

Thank you for all your responses. I've recently switched to Firefox for another try and the performance problem has gone away.
Not related to your problem but I have Firefox as backup in case there is a problem with Chrome. Firefox is much slower.
