And how valuable it was to to our Community, it was a place for discussing the open secrets of the street ,it was where Mam sent you with a note for tha Lb of sugar in the blue bag or the 1/2 lb of best butter cut with a wire,a bag of broken biscuits , it was the hub of many a street

As a teen, i used to deliver newspapers to a corner shop about 10 minutes from where i lived (the house to which i recently returned to decorate - some of you will have read my account of that on another thread). That corner shop is still in existence and, what's more, is just around the corner from where i now live. Obviously not the same owners, but it's still there:-)

An American couple bought the little shop at the top of my street, referred to it as their ‘store’ we kids loved going in to hear this new accent, when they said the time, it was 10 after 12 ( example) not 10 past 12 , very new to us
Having just got back from house sitting last night, I needed a few bits (beer) so just back from corner shop, and bumped into my neighbour on his mob scooter and a casual matter for five, we don’t live in each other’s pockets but nice to have a chat we both live alone, no corner shop wouldn’t have happened
The Post Office down in the village used to have a shop section that had the most random things, it had bare floorboards, wooden, uncovered shelves thick with dust. There was the oddest assortment of stuff, plasters, a few tins of vegetables, gardening twine, writing pads etc, all just thrown on the shelf together but on the wall there was a collection of Moroccan pottery, Safi, how it got to be there no-one really knew but we bought a lot of it!

They certainly sold an array of stuff Zebo
we have a corner shop here (not on our corner though). It's been great as it's a place where my 10 year old can practise being a grown up with her handbag, going out by hersel and looking minutely at every single thing in the shop before deciding how much she can spend on blah, or how much on blah.
As a bonus, they have a slushie machine!
I loved the corner shops in Ireland with the bar at the back
