The two clues are jumbled together. The definitions can be anywhere and their wordplays mixed.
Example would be:
Escapes see goat (sent very frisky) streak (5; 5)
To solve, Should read:
Escapes (sent very frisky) see goat streak (5; 5)
Two I need help with:
11/34 To maintain one’s standing, it helps York hotel on right of
Ouse to take up preparing emu with carob (8; 8, 2 words)
10/16 Unable to change rear of pit for new location of organ
tube? Yes – take second of alternatives anyhow (8; 8)
Difficult this week. I have one of the answers to 11/34. Definition is York and wordplay is anagram of (preparing) emu and carob. Have not sussed out the others you need help with.
11/34 the other one has a very long def - 'to maintain one's standing it helps' the wordplay is 'hotel' = INN + 'on right of ousE' + 4 letters for 'bring up'.
Thanks elliemay1 and ProfessorM.
What is the def for Cannon?
I don't know the theme yet but entry for Cannon has to go elsewhere, I think.
I have answer to wig philosopher (18/24) but it does not fit in either.
'tube' is the def for 'cannon', hankir (the other def is just 'location of organ').
You need the partner to 'cannon' for the entry - and the partner to the philosopher/wig answer as the entry (cannon and s... are not entered in the grid, so ''amended'' in the preamble is a bit misleading).
I'm sure you'll know the partner for s... - even in America it's a pretty famous outlet - 'cannon' is part of a British comedy duo and you might struggle with that one.
Never had the money to buy at the store in 1a.
I found the partner to Cannon. The only place it can go is 12d. Which means original answer to 12d has a partner.
The misprint is 'plaNs' - OR = 'before' (archaic) + 6 letters for big 'caddies'/boxes [around] 4 letters for 'fee'/price.
Whenever I see, ''a hint leading to...'' in a preamble, I'm pretty sure the real message is contained in some part of the clues themselves.
If you want to leap ahead with this one maybe take a look...
4/21 Chief judge and earl arranged transfers of property from Edinburgh from estates , as in escheat (7; 7)
SA????? and ??O?TE? for the grid entries
1/32 Trader (no hard worker) essentially gains ability to acquire posh car (4;4) I have MERC for trader ( no hard worker) posh car...so it's the other half I'm stuck on
14/30 Evergreen army supremo occupying French island audibly hints at independence beginning to accept very hard water? (6 ;6)
C??S??
Just spotted this but if you're still looking -
4/21 the thematic one is 4 letters - anag of 'AND +E(arl)' [its partner goes in at 24a - at 21 you need the partner of one of the 8/29 thematics] the other answer is obscure but is written out in the clue's last words.
For 32 it's a 6 letter synonym for 'gains knowledge' minus first and last letters - def 'acquire' (by merit?).
14/30 'evergreen' + 'very hard water' are the defs, they're both normal answers and for the one you've given the letters for it's -
sounds like ''clues'' + i + a.
