1 - 3 letter bird (a blue ???) is the US 'fool' + 3 letters for 'a' inside.
26 - name of the puzzle setter + 'O(ver)' around (reversed) 2 letters for Seychelles
A french word for the supreme being - 3 letters for 'end' + 'up' minus 'power'.
Thanks ProfessorM.
I have two to go.
I have the extra words and two layouts.
32a has all the crossers. Converting from layout A to B or B to A does not give me real words. What am I doing wrong?
I wrote them out one above the other -
QWE...
PYF...
and the first letter in 32 should be 'B' (going from the C of the 'Comb' answer) -
...C
...B
Only the grey, unclued entries need to be words - most of the grid contains non-words.
Did you miss the '...ignore punctuation' bit at the end of the preamble, hankir? I thought that was a a nice touch (in fact, I think the whole thing is pretty neat).
That's the clue with no definition mentioned in the preamble -
3 letters for a (worthless) dog but minus its last letter goes after the usual 5 letters for 'bury' + OS ('bone') - then it's 4 letters for 'departed' on the end.
Thanks ProfessorM.
Knew the two parts separately but the combined word is new.
The second part is relevant to the clashes.
Figured the song out.
I have one clash so know the symbol.
Yes, that's it.
I think this is another cleverly multi-layered puzzle - two in one weekend is pretty good going. I particularly like the quote given by the first/last letters of the extra words (leading to the other three symbols).
