Relatively new to Twitter. How can you be sure that some people on it are the people they say they are? For example, a celebrity with their profile on show-are they real or imposters.

Most genuine celebrity accounts will have a blue tick badge next to their username. This indicates authentication and verification.
Yes there a lot of scammers. I get women following me who are plainly not what they seem.
It's probably worse for females.
I wrote a comment to someone famous who then responded back to me and I got a lot of abuse. I ignored it.
