Im going to be working permanently from home now so was thinking of getting a dog.

Im happy to take it out 2-3 times a day but between these times i have to do some work! I will be there with it but wont be able to devote my entire day to it.

Are there any particular breeds that will happily chill after a long walk or run or am i being cruel?

Only ever had collies before who needed most of the day.

Any suggestions?

Bednobs - thats good, I've had 2 collies in the past and even after an hour running free and playing with other dogs they were both up and about wanting to do stuff after about 30 minutes rest.

Do love them tho, still think i might get another.
Darcey ….no prize for guessing about your active Collies, they are working dogs, bred to herd sheep all day with a few rest breaks in between, your Collies thought you were a sheep and have been trying to round you up for years ….I’ll grant you, they are beautiful dogs, but have you thought about a Ridgey ( Rhodesian Ridgeback) can be active, can be a couch potato, and no one will lay a hand on you or your family ….just a thought :)
The Kennel Club also revealed that German Shepherds will need more than two hours of exercise each day, making them perfect breeds for longs walk.
simply, running makes dogs happy. The joy you think you see on your dog's face when they're running around isn't just in your head; research shows that dogs can experience runner's high, the nearly euphoric, relaxed feeling that many people feel after intense or prolonged workouts.
