What's This Book?

Hi, my sister and I are trying to remember the name of a book we read some time ago. It was about an amateur writing group. It was held in a lady's house we think might have possibly been widowed. There was a selection of characters, including a young girl who kept it a secret that she was going and her brothers beat up the man who gave her a lift. There was also a man who annoyed everyone and we think he later died in a fire in his flat. That's all we can remember, sorry.

My first thought was The Jane Austen Book Club but a bit of research seemed to invalidate that.

It's hard to tell what kind of book this is. Need a more detailed description, names, what the cover looks like, etc.
In the meantime, all I can advise is to search by category.
