Numbers On Icons

I have a new phone that I'm trying to get to grips with a Samsung Galaxy Ao3 64gb.
If there is a number on a badge or icon I cannot get rid of it.
With my old phone I pressed down and was given the option Clear Badge. But I don't ģet that with this phone.
Also please can someone tell me how to delete Downloads that I don't want from bbc Sounds. The Google instructions don't work ( swipe item to the left ).

settings--notifications--App Icon badges......set on.

I'm assuming that the number indicates that there's a notification for the relevant app. Pull down from the top of the screen to see all notifications. if you want to respond to a notification, tap on it. Otherwise swipe it sideways to get rid of (and, at the same time, the number on its icon).

With regard to removing downloads from the BBC Sounds app, have you tapped 'Delete' after swiping left?

I have got rid of the numbers on the icons - hooray !
B - nothing happens when I swipe left and I can't find Edit or a Pencil icon in top R hand corner or anywhere .
A real puzzle. Thank you anyway.
