Energy Bills Showing Negative Figures

What does it means when you have a negative (-) in front of the payment figure?

Is it the energy company owes me the money or I owe them the money?

It is currently showing - £1089.

When you refer to the payment figure, do you mean the final amount at the end of the statment or the amount you have paid in as a payment?

If its the final figure then that is the amount you owe them. In other words you have minus £1089 in your energy account.

Its the opposite way round on the credit card bill.

My local oil company do this. The way they present it is as if they were my customer - so me being in credit to them shows as a debit!
