2. Anagram ( played) of “a oddly”. Melody is extra word.
28. I think it is berthe, alternate spelling of bertha according to Chambers, with the e from the middle of chest.
2 - anag A+ODDLY - the last 4 words are an oblique def (3-3 hyphenated).
16 'migrant' = anag hEALTHy ('discovered') obscure answer ['agreeably is extra'].
29 'that will do' = SO [around] T(ime) + 3 letters for 'before' [extra is 'artistry']

I am still working on last 6 across clues.
I have possible solution to 4 of them but do not see the parsing.
For creator, I see 5, 9.
Creator is 5,9,4,3

I have D and A for first two.
C and L.
and sorry about my counting error - the C is 5 (not 4).

39 'Elderly (means it's anarchaic) men perhaps impressed' is the def ('impressed' = they're forced into service) it's a synonym for 'feeling' reversed [extra is 'boyhood'].
