There was always a temptation to add in a bit of silliness but, alas there were too many bosses around to make it worth the risk most of the time. (When we had the Orient Express visiting the station, I really, really, really wanted to put out an announcement asking if there was a Monsieur Poirot on the station and, if so, would he kindly NOT board the train, as the passengers wanted an uneventful journey. Sadly, I wasn't brave enough to do so).
However I did occasionally allow a little bit of daftness to sneak in, such as when Platform 2 was filled with passengers (who were presumably on their way to either a party or a convention) all dressed as spacemen. I advised them that their journey might be delayed, as there was a bus replacement service running between Alpha Centauri and the outer arm of the Crab nebula ;-)

One of the TOCs (I don't remember which) has an amusing poster in the loos about what you mustn't try to flush away, including such things as your boyfriend's best jumper, your dreams of a wonderful future, and other mad items I can't recall (It was some years ago I saw it). Had me chuckling at the time, and did make the point I felt.
That was Virgin Rail, Canary42 ;-)
