Trying To Connect New Printer
16 Answers
I thought it was all going so well...
Bought a new printer, having given up on the HP. This is a Canon TS3355. Instructions look straightforward, followed them until I got to Download; then it won't run, and I'm getting the message from Winzip Selfextractor 'can't create output file'. What next, please?

There is information on the internet about what to do next, but it's beyond my capabilities I'm afraid. If it all went pear-shaped because I got muddled as I was trying to find the .exe file and change it into a .zip, and I risked losing any of the stuff stored on my laptop I'd be in a real mess.

I assume you are stuck at step 5. The file has probably dowloaded into your Downloads folder. However the fact that you have tried to run the file implies that you know where the file is.

Download the printer drivers directly from here and install them. Make sure you select the correct operating system.

Again, it was all going so well...I tried your suggestion, SlackAlice, and it seemed fine until it 'could not detect printer'. Continued with instructions, but I cannot see which button to press for 3 seconds. The layout doesn't look like my machine. Front? Back? Side? No similar illustration that I can see.
And to add to the confusion, the system seems to have found my original HP printer, but before I gave up on it I had it in wi-fi setup mode, and now that it's switched on again it's continuing to show the purple light running along the front so I can't get out of that. I am so fed up with being surrounded by myriad sheets of paper, manuals, boxes and goodness knows what else, when all I want to do is print a couple of documents.
It's jinxed, I know it is. Tried the USB cable, still no luck. In the middle od doing that I suddenly noticed that the HP printer, which I'd plugged in because the computer seemed to be saying that it would print, had stopped circulating its purple light and promptly printed the stuff in the queue. Hooray, I thought. Until I tried logging on to the internet and no IP addresses could be found, yet again. Internet connection returned when I unplugged the HP. You couldn't make it up, could you?
