it is quite a strange looking jeep.but totally safe and legal..they just become picky because it does not look like a mundane family car.
some people like myself like to drive something totally different from the usual junk that they like to examine(mondeo, astra, italian crap),etc.
examining boring everyday cars probably does not strain his 1 brain cell...

I agree with you there Mr Umm.. about all the red tape is blocking connon sense. but you shoud see the red tape that Mot testers are up against. that really crazy.
you can stick a 6 foot spear to your bonnet and they have to pass it.. but if it has a small rust hole in it = fail..coz that is dangerous?
Governments.. gotta love them

I can empathise with your position, being into hot rods and cars that are not 1.1 euroboxes.
The main reason the mot tester is being awkward is because he is not testing a 1.1 eurobox, and he is not sure of how to proceed. Various regulations apply, and he may have to go and look things up.
eg nowhere in the MOT manual does it say you have o have windscreen washers. It says an effective means of windscreen cleaning, so a fairy liquid bottle of water squirted at the screen will suffice.
Would you care to tell us more about said tester and his problem with your car?

Don't you dare shoot my MoT examiner!
My car is going in for it's test in the next few days and I'm relying on having the same guy testing it as has done it for the past few years.
That's the guy who always looks at the one inch crack at the bottom of the windscreeen and says "That's not going anywhere, so I don't think we'll worry about that".
He's the same guy who discovered that the failed bulb over the rear number plate was rusted in and would be difficult to replace: "Well, I'm sure it was working when I tested it. Let's just say it failed immediately afterwards".
He's the same guy who said " Well, that's the noisiest wheel bearing I've ever heard but it's not going to seize up or fall off so I don't see why I should fail it".
Leave my examiner alone! He's on my side!!

andy boz.......he complained about size of bull bar, asking why it is a manual push pressure window washer, yhe most stupid complaint was why are the wipers only 10" blades, the answer is that the windscreen is only 12" high so i thought that was self explanatory, also studied his books as to whether it was legal not to have demisters or heater?????????......needless to say i will not be back to his garage, not even to buy a pack of sweets.
if i choose not to have a heater that is my choice and nothing to do with anyone else.i suggest he gets out a bit more and get a life, and understand not everyone drives euroboxes..

The size of a bull bar is debatable, and I cannot answer it. There are probably things under Construction rather than MOT that apply.
Certainly if your car is fitted with a push operated washer, his is not reason for failure. The regs state ". The windscreen washers do not provide enough liquid to clear the windscreen in conjunction with the wiper(s)" is reason, so if your pump pumps he cannot fail it.
More info is available at ukmot dot com slash manual.
One of my vehicles has a push washer, and vacuum wipers. I will enjoy getting that tested. If you feel agrieved enough, firstly ask him to show you where it says washer pump can't be manual, where it says about screen size, and ask him for the number for the MOT testers inpectorate, so you can check with them.
