go for a swim?
The lack of space on submarines limits what the crew can do during their designated free time. In most cases, crews like to hang out in the mess hall. Usually that communal area has a few big televisions and a DVD library with close to 400 movies, offering at least some kind of entertainment while deep under the waves.
I wonder who gets the remote control?
… and what happens when it gets lost!
Sandy; what do you do with your 8 hours spare time, when you are not sleeping or working?

There sometimes doesn't seem enough hours in the day.
Might be a daft question but can you get the internet under the sea?

Lots of radio traffic from a submarine might give it's location away.

Not the internet as we know it. Besides internet access is severely restricted for all Naval Personnel including those on duty aboard surface vessels. There are specialist companies that can supply underwater internet connectivity, like for instance Subnero, but most of the technology is top secret and military grade encrypted. The pass time of choice for lots of the submariners is the good old Xbox 360 which needs no internet connection and the newer Nintendo Switch that will operate from the old game boy cartridges. The submariners are all excellent players of Battleships. :))
